A thick mist covered everything when Charles left for school the following Monday. He heard someone calling and worried that it might be the Tongue. But running out of the mist came Gino.

“Charles!” he called. “A wacko escaped from Wacky Valley!”

Wacky Valley, actually Green Valley Psychiatric Center for the Criminally Insane, was located in the foothills of the Peakaneenee Mountains about five miles north of Haneckhadee. The last time a patient escaped, the police captured him across the river behind Charles's school.

“Aw, c'mon!” said Gino, who had on his headphones and was listening to the radio.

“What?” Charles asked.

“The Chief of Police says the wacko's not dangerous,” Gino said. “Yeah, right.”

Gino's mouth dropped open.
