Forgive Us Our Trespassers...
Can you tell me how to get
out of here?”
“Of course I can, honey, but
they’ll find you,” she whispered. She looked out the window again.
“They always find you. You ought to know, Caitlyn; you trained most of
those boys.”
“I’m sorry, Mary…I can’t
stay to talk. I have to go now, before it gets dark.”
“Oh…you don’t want to be out
in those woods after dark.” Caitlyn opened the door and Mary gathered
at her side. “All right then…just remember to stay to the left side of
the tree line; you don’t want to die from drowning in them sinkholes. I
hear it’s a dreadful way to go—not being able to breathe and all.”
Caitlyn had enough of Mary’s
constant chatter and decided just to leave. As she ran into the woods,
she could hear Mary shouting after her. “You’ll never make it, Caitlyn,
unless you get a move on…them Trespassers will find you. They do bad
things to the Mountain People.”
